Alocasia Heart Balloon Pink Variegated: A Care Guide for Growing Indoors

Alocasia Heart Balloon Pink Variegated pairs rounded, heart-shaped foliage with soft pink and cream patterning. Its full, almost inflated leaf outline gives the plant an immediately recognisable shape, while pronounced veins add a sculpted quality to the surface.

Darker green areas provide a rich background for pale marbling, delicate splashes and broader sectors of colour. As fresh foliage opens, the combination of rounded form and blush-toned patterning gives each leaf a particularly expressive character.

Heart Balloon Pink is a bold feature plant with a softer side. The generous shape of its leaves gives the variegation room to unfold, bringing warmth, texture and an unusual silhouette to an indoor collection.

Plant Care Guide:

Light: Thrives in bright, filtered light. A well-lit position supports its broad foliage; protect pink and cream sections from harsh direct sun.

Water: Keep the root zone lightly moist, allowing the surface to begin drying between waterings. Water thoroughly and drain freely. Check just below the surface in small pots to maintain moisture around the roots.

Humidity: Aim for around 60–80% with gentle ventilation. Consistent humidity supports developing leaves, especially while the plant is settling into a new environment.

Temperature: Enjoys steady warmth around 18°C to 27°C. Keep above 15°C and protect the plant from cold draughts.

Plant Tips:

  1. A bright window with filtered sunlight or a full-spectrum grow light provides suitable conditions. Keep its broad leaves clear of hot or cold glass.
  2. We recommend coco coir, perlite and fine orchid bark in a pot matched to the roots. This keeps the mix open while retaining the moisture a young plant needs.
  3. Give new leaves room to unfurl naturally. Their rounded outline and sculpted veins become clearer as the soft foliage expands and hardens.
  4. Feed with a complete houseplant fertiliser during active growth, following the product’s dilution instructions. Reduce feeding when new growth slows.
  5. Combine a humid growing environment with gentle air circulation. A humidifier is useful in dry rooms; position fans to move air around the plant rather than directly across the foliage.
  6. To protect the pale areas, maintain filtered light and consistent root moisture. If a patch browns, check roots, watering and humidity, then adjust conditions gradually to support the next leaf.
  7. Let the pot’s drying rate guide watering through the seasons. Extend the interval when light levels fall or the plant produces less growth.
  8. Keep out of reach of pets and small children. Alocasia contains irritating calcium oxalate crystals.
