Plant type: Live variegated Alocasia houseplant with long, golden-patterned foliage.
Growing location: Indoors in bright, indirect light with room for its upright growth; keep frost-free.
Alocasia Lauterbachiana Aurea carries long, sword-like leaves edged with ripples and fine serrations. Golden-yellow and lime markings run through the deeper green surface, while purple-toned undersides bring a rich contrast to the warm colour above. Its slender foliage gives the plant a graceful sense of movement.
The Aurea form brings yellow variegation to the distinctive narrow leaves of Alocasia lauterbachiana. Fine streaks, scattered mottling and broader golden sections create a layered display, with the upright petioles lifting each blade into view.
As it matures, Lauterbachiana develops height and an expansive, architectural outline. Its appeal reaches beyond the colour of an individual leaf: the arrangement of the foliage, the patterned margins and the darker reverse together make it a striking indoor specimen.
This plant has a beautifully variegated leaf just coming through.
Plant Care Guide:
Light: Provide bright, indirect light across the foliage. Filter strong direct sun to protect the golden areas and choose a position that gives its upright growth an even supply of light.
Water: Keep the mix lightly moist, allowing the surface to begin drying before watering thoroughly. Drain freely. Check moisture more often as the plant becomes larger and actively growing foliage uses more water.
Humidity: Aim for around 60–75% with gentle air movement. Acclimatised plants also adapt to moderate humidity; a settled position away from radiators helps maintain consistent conditions.
Temperature: Enjoys warmth around 20°C to 27°C during active growth. Keep above 15°C and protect the plant from sudden cold draughts.
