Rungia klossii - also known as the mushroom plant is unique edible herb grown for its glossy green foliage and distinctive savoury flavour. The fresh leaves have a savoury flavour and aroma, making this a truly interesting plant that can be grown as a edible houseplant.
Although originally from the tropical jungles of Papua New Guinea - in the UK it will excel as a potted houseplant in bright indirect light - although it can be kept outdoors in a warm, sheltered position during summer. It's attractive glossy leaves and ease to grow in a pot makes it an excellent herb for the kitchen windowsill, conservatory, or living space.
Culinary Use
Mushroom Plant can be used fresh; chopped as a garnish for noodle dishes, salads, stir-fries, soups, tacos, curries, and herb sauces. We personally enjoy using it with Mexican and Thai cuisine alongside coriander, where its savoury flavour works particularly well.
